For Your Visit

Your initial appointment can take about 90 minutes.  Subsequent appointments usually take about an hour.  Lauren might ask you many questions about your symptoms, habits, lifestyle, and medical and family history.  Based on your chief complaint, she also might examine:

• The parts of your body that are painful
• The shape, coating, and color of your tongue
• The strength, rhythm, and quality of the pulse in your wrist
• Your complexion and the color and texture of your nails

After the initial interview, Lauren will ask you to lie down.  She will select some acupuncture points based on your diagnosis.  She will clean your skin with alcohol in the areas where she will insert the hair-thin needles.  Most patients find the acupuncture session very relaxing and many fall asleep.  We encourage patients to empty their mind or to meditate during this time.  After their acupuncture treatment, some people feel relaxed and others feel energized.  Plan to take it easy for a while after your treatment. 

 

Insurance: The Meridian Medicine Acupuncture Center accepts some medical insurance.

Precaution: We do not recommend having an acupuncture treatment if you are very hungry, full, or fatigued.
